Slip-on flange coupling is an important joint way of pipeline construction.Slip-on flange coupling is to be fixed two pipes, pipe fittings or equipments on a flange plate or between two flanges, adding flange gasket with bolt. Then they fasten together and the process of coupling is completed. Some pipe fittings and equipment have attached flange, which also belong to flange coupling.

Slip-on flange can be classified into threaded joint flange and welding flange. Threaded joint flange is for low-pressure flange with small diameter wire, while welding flange is for both high pressure and low pressure flange with large diameter. The diameter and quantity of connecting bolt and the thickness of flange plate of different pressure are all different. At presents, the output of slip-on flange in China whose annual output was 2.25 million tons in 2000 and 2.46 million tons in 2001 ranks the first in Asia. The growth rate has been slowing in recent years. In Japan, the annual output of slip-on flange was 2.43 million tons in1990 but in 1998 it was reduced to 1.9 million tons, remaining unchanged until 2001. Moreover we could not foresee the prospect of a rapid recovery. India's annual output is 400,000 tons, and South Korea 700,000 tons. They are all facing the same situation.

Demand for slip-on flange is diverse for automotive, construction machinery, railway vehicles, shipbuilding industry all need it. The proportion of forgings in auto industry is 67% in Japan, 49% in India, 41% South Korea and 40% in China. The percentages will change with the future trend of national auto industry developing.

According to the different levels of stress, slip-on flange gasket also has different materials from low pressure asbestos mat, high-pressure asbestos pad to metal pads. Flange coupling is convenient to use, withstanding greater pressure. Slip-on flange coupling is widely used in industrial piping. Slip-on flange coupling is invisible with small pipe diameters and low voltage within the family. There are many pipes and equipments everywhere of slip-on flange in a boiler room or on a production site.
